Dr. Julie Ray Roberts, CCC-SLP, BCBA-D, is a nationally recognized Speech-Language Pathologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst–Doctoral with a Ph.D. in Special Education specializing in autism intervention. Since 2002, she has dedicated her career to helping individuals with complex communication needs—particularly those with autism and intellectual disabilities—develop meaningful communication and achieve greater independence.
Based in the Houston, Texas area, Dr. Roberts is the founder of AAC Studio, Inc., where she empowers parents to become active leaders in their child's augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) journey. By integrating speech-language pathology (SLP), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and AAC, she provides comprehensive services including individualized therapy, parent coaching, professional training, social groups, and customized AAC setup and design.
In 2011, Dr. Roberts developed an innovative communication approach designed to help individuals with autism communicate more effectively. She is currently completing the SVO Power Manual, scheduled for publication in 2026, with the goal of making these evidence-informed strategies more accessible to families, educators, therapists, and clinicians around the world.
A passionate advocate for disability inclusion, Dr. Roberts founded the Profound Autism Ally and Global Disability Alliance communities on Facebook and actively supports fundraising initiatives for programs serving widows and orphans in Uganda. She is also a dedicated advocate for twice-exceptional (2e) and neurodivergent children, teens, and adults, with a mission to improve long-term outcomes related to communication, mental health, and addiction prevention.
In 2025, Dr. Roberts received one of the highest honors of her career when she was named Alumna of the Year by Louisiana Tech University's College of Applied and Natural Sciences. The recognition reaffirmed her lifelong commitment to innovation, advocacy, and creating meaningful change for individuals with disabilities and complex communication needs.
Dr. Roberts lives with her husband and children in the Houston, Texas area. Known for her passion, creativity, and outside-the-box problem-solving, she continues to inspire families and professionals alike through her work as a clinician, educator, researcher, and advocate.
